Description for Genna’s clinics
Footwork and Turning
May 24 5pm Elk Lake
The ability to move on your board is an essential skill to SUP. Wether you are paddling in chop, racing, catching a wave, or turning, it all starts with proper foot work. Being stuck to one spot on your board limits what you can do, how you can move your board, and how fast you can go in varying conditions. Plus, no one likes numb feet. Even if you’re a seasoned veteran, it is always important to move back to the basics and improve/add new skills to your skillset.
This 1.5 hr course will:
Break down into steps the process of moving on your board
Give you the knowledge and understanding to continue developing your skills on your own
Apply those skills to real experiences like turning, foot steering, adjusting board to plane in various conditions, etc.
Small group size so everyone gets one on one adjustment
Drills to take home to hone your skills. Fun environment
**Please bring feel free to bring questions or footwork/turning specific skill questions to class.
Race Skills and Technique
May 25 3:30pm Sidney Glass Beach
Doing well in a race is not based solely on who can paddle the fastest. Skills like starts, drafting, passing, turning, and reading the water play a huge role in racing. Even if you’re a seasoned veteran, it is always important to move back to the basics and improve/add new skills to your skillset.
In this 1.5 hr course we will:
How to Sprint for starts (beach start and water start)
Look at starts ie: where to line up, technique, sprint stroke, and in the moment decisions
Drafting and the skills that assist in drafting ie: steering strokes, positioning, foot steering, side drafting
Reading the water ie: how it will affect starts, catching bumps, reading bumps, upwind/downwind
Small group sized to get one on one time. Fun environment
**Please bring feel free to bring questions or footwork/turning specific skill questions to class.
*** Please be aware there is the potential to fall in to the water in this course. Please dress appropriately so as to accommodate this, as we want you to push your comfort level and grow as a paddler.
